Toy Fair 2018 – Playmobil
Next up, from Toy Fair is a toy company that is forging their own path in the construction segment of the industry, which is, of course, dominated by LEGO. However, they have made huge advancements, introducing their first ever licensed sets last year, led by Ghostbusters and How to Train Your Dragon. This year, both of those lines continue, and are joined by Spirit, based on the Netflix animated series. In case, you haven’t guessed, we’re talking about Playmobil, and this is what they had to show us.
This report is going to be primarily about their licensed products, and we’re going to start with Ghostbusters. This year, in addition to figures based on Ghostbusters II, Playmobil also has a license for the Real Ghostbusters animated series, and will debuting sets based on it. Also new with Ghostbusters is a new “app-enabled” assortment called Playmogram. By downloaded. Special app and using special prisms included with these figures, you can make a hologram of a ghost appear, which you can then “catch” in the trap. It’s pretty extraordinary technology and it looks really cool.
With the Dragons line, Playmobil is giving fans more of what they want, namely, more dragons.
The Spirit line will feature different horses and stables, in addition to larger sets.
Also, Playmobil is extending their partnership with the NHL and will be releasing sets for the Soccer World Cup.
Playmobil also has a ton of new product in their non-licensed sets, with a new Dinosaur Explorer line that is set to cash in on the “dino fever” expected to accompany this Summer’s Jurasssic World: Fallen Kingdom.
