Coverage of Toy Fair 2010 continues with McFarlane Toys McFarlane Toys was founded by Image Comics Co-Founder and Creator of Spawn, Todd McFarlane, to produce action figures based on his creation. Since then, it has become best known for it’s line of Sportspicks figure, featuring incredibly detailed depictions of athletes from the worlds of the MLB, NFL, NHL and NBA.
This year, not surprisingly, it’s more of the same. There are new releases scheduled for all of the sports, broken up into quarters. Spring 2010 will see the release of: MLB Series 26, Cooperstown Series 7, NBA Series 17 and NHL Series 24. Summer 2010 will see the release of: College Football Series 2, NFL Legends Series 6, and MLB Team Assortments. Fall 2010 will see the release of: NFL Series 23, NFL Series 24, NFL 12-inch, NBA Series 18, NHL Series 25 and NHL Series 26. McFarlane is also adding two new innovations this year. The first is a new line of figures called Playmakers. These innovative 4″ figures will have over 20 points of articulation and will be available throughout all major sports. MLB Playmakers Series 1 will debut in Spring 2010. NFL Playmakers Series 1 will debut in Summer 2010. And, NHL Playmakers Series 1 will debut in Fall 2010. The second new initiative is being called the Collector Level. This program will consist of a continuing series of limited production figures. There are six levels in the program beginning at Bronze and ending at MVP. The higher the level, the fewer figures there are made. The lowest level, Bronze, will have between 1000-2000 figures made, while the highest level, MVP, will only have between 1-50 figures made. Collector Level figures will have alternate uniforms, accessories, signatures and other authentic memorabilia. This programs hould up the already high collectibility of McFarlane’s sports figures.

Although all of the previously mentioned product is exciting, McFarlane doesn’t just do sports figures. In fact, they have surprisingly picked up the action figure license for the upcoming Disney Summer film The Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. McFarlane has two lines planned: a 6″ and a 4″ line. Series 1 of the 6″ line is scheduled for release in May and consists of: Dastan: Warrior, Dastan: Desert, Zolm (Hassansin) and Ghazab (Hassansin). Series 1 of the 4″ line is also scheduled for release in May and consists of: Dastan: Warrior, Dastan: Desert, Setam (Hassansin) and Ghazab (Hassansin). There are also two boxed sets planned for release in May. They are: Alamut Gate (w/Dastan) and Dastan and Aksh Horse. Also releasing in May is the Sands of Time Role Play Dagger, which will have light and sound.

Finally, McFarlane also announced the continuation of it’s popular line based on the Halo video game series. McFarlane has announced that figures will be on shelves to compliment the new Halo: Reach video game. Three series will be released: in Fall 2010, Spring 2011 and Summer 2011. They were only showing package mock-ups, no actual figures.
