Toy Fair coverage begins with a company that scored a couple of big wins last year. Last Year, TOMY became the worldwide license holder for Pokemon, and managed to convince Nintendo to coordinate a simultaneous launch of the toys and the new Pokemon X & Y games. They also updated the Rock ‘Em, Sock ‘Em Robots concept with their extraordinarily popular Battroborgs line. This year, they are continuing the Pokemon momentum and  have added an extraordinary new license.

FIGURES AND MORE @ TOY FAIR 2014: TOMY

We’ll start our tour of TOMY with a look at what’s next for Pokemon.

Pokemon: Pokemon continues it’s growth with several new products, most notably the new BATTLE READY PIKACHU, which sits on top of a child’s shoulder, just like in the show, and fires foam discs, the POKEMON TRAINER’S KALOS REGION POKEDEX, which will feature lights and sounds and the new TRAINER GLOVES WITH SOUND, which are motion activated and have four different sound effects. There is also an important new addition to the line: ASH! The main trainer character in the Pokemon animated universe since the very beginning will be made this year in a 4.5″ figure, with 13 points of articulation. He will also come with a 2″ Pikachu, which can sit on his shoulder. There will also be more new plush, new figure 2 packs, 3 packs and 4 packs and a new line celebrating the past of Pokemon called Trainer’s Choice. There are also new plush, including new plush pokeballs, which reverse into pokemon.

Next up, the next step for last year’s runaway hit, Battroborgs

Battroborgs: This year, there are two main advancements to Battroborgs. The first is a change to the controller. The new controller is still motion activiated, but does away with the two piece configuration of the original version, putting everything into one unit. The second advancement is the inclusion of weapons. The weapons are swords and the new controller is shaped like a katana handle. Single packs will be $29.99 and the new battle arena will be $69.99. The new Battroborg Warrior will be available in 2014.

Finally, one of the biggest announcements from TOMY this year was the surprise acquisition of the Master Toy License for Sonic the Hedgehog. TOMY’s Sonic line will debut with products based on the new Video Game and Animated Series: Sonic BOOM. This property will introduce new looks for Sonic and his familiar supporting cast.

Sonic BOOM: We were only allowed to take pictures of a selected assortment of items, but the line will be fairly comprehensive, including 3 inch figures, 12 inch talking plush and a roleplay mask.

Finally, before we leave TOMY, Congratulations are in order. Using their CHUGGINGTON STACKTRACK, TOMY set a GUINNESS WORLD RECORD last May at Grand Central Terminal in New York City for Tallest Toy Train Track. They brought the record winning stack to Toy Fair. Here is the picture of the Stack and of the Guinness certificate.
