Hasbro, as part of their license with Marvel, has produced the tie-in toy line forX -Men Origins: Wolverine. Here are reviews of two of the main figures: Logan and Sabretooth.
Now, before I go any further, I have to say that I have had a serious problem with this line ever since I first saw it in February at Toy Fair. Namely, I have a problem with the fact that there is only one scale to the line. The powers at be at Hasbro decided, for some reason, that the scale should be 3¾”. Why? I have no idea. Another decision that I don’t understand is the decision not to use scanning technology to capture the actors’ likenesses. This would not be a problem if they had used their best sculptors on this lline. Sadly, they didn’t. But, enough of my words, pictures speak much louder. Here are the figures.
Hasbro – X-Men Origins: Wolverine – Action Figure: Logan
Ok, where do we start? How about the face. It beasr a passing resemblance to Hugh Jackman, but it’s by no means a stellar likeness. The best part about the figure is the articulation. The figure is articulated at the neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, chest, hips and knees. This is an extraordinary amount of articulation for a 3¾” figure. However, I have saved the best for last. The figure’s accessories are an axe and AN EXTRA PAIR OF HANDS! That’s right, for some reason I can’t figure out, Wolverine’s claws are attatched to his hands and if you want his hands to have the claws retracted, you have to CHANGE THE HANDS!! This is a huge misstep in my opinion. Why they could make Wolverine with retractable claws is frankly beyond me, it has been done before. This is a perfect example of where I think teh smaller scale hurts this line. If you have to have any of the Wolverine figures, skip this one. It’s just not worth it. The claws are “bone”, so it’s not really Wolverine anyway. 2 out of 5.
Hasbro – X-Men Origins: Wolverine – Action Figure: Sabretooth
Ugh. Not much more you can say here. Same articulation as the Logan. Ok, let’s break it down. First, WHERE ARE HIS CLAWS? and What’s up with his fingers? Second, Good Lord, look at those mutton chops. Third, what the heck is that thing next to the figure’s left hand. I think the only saving grace may be that the likeness is a kittle better than the Logan likeness. But, I still wouldn’t recommend this figure either. 2 out of 5.
I am extremely hopeful that the future waves in this line improve upon these very rough beginnings. Otherwise, this could be one of the worst lines of the year.
