Quick Pick: Katamari Forever Review

One of the most quirky and beloved series comes to PS3 at last, with the promise of a next-gen experience. Is it worth your money? Read on and find out. Katamari Forever is the latest instalment in a series which captured the hearts of many gamers with a simple four element recipe: Trippy Graphics, Simplistic, but Effective, Controls, an Absurd Story with Hilarious Dialogue and a Low Price Point. The first two games followed this strategy to the letter and became huge indie hits. A game for the PSP followed which recieved only alukewarm reception. Now, the series has returned to it’s Dual Analog Stick roots and I’m sorry to report that the magic the first two games had is not there. The story is as absurd as ever, with the addition of a Robot version of the King of All Cosmos. The graphics are a bit more detailed and sharp than the original games. And, the controls are still as simplistic as ever. There are some big issues, however. The game feels rushed, like it was forced out to cash in on a license whose popularity was waning. There are soem MAJOR clipping issues that Quality Control should have caught. Also, some of the levels are ripped from other Katamari games. Now, none of this would be a problem if the game only set you back $19.99. That is not the case here though. The retail price of this game is $49.99 and, unfortunately, I cannot say it is worth it.

Katamari Forever rolls up a  3 out of 5
