The fine folks at Traveller’s Tales, who did such a great job with the Lego Star Wars and Lego Indiana Jones games, have reunited with Lego to create what may wuite possibly be the most anticipated Lego game fo all time: Lego Batman. The game releases today, and I will review it by the end of the week. Here is a preview.
Lego Batman continues the legacy of great controls and simplistic, but engaging gameplay. However, this is the first Lego game built for next-gen systems as opposed to being ported over to them. As such, the graphics look much better and the levels are more vertical to more accurately depict the overall look and feel of Gotham City. Put simply, this game looks great.
The story is simple. All of Batman’s greatest villains from his rogues gallery have escaped from Arkham Asylum and are reeking havok all over Gotham. Batman and his allies must join forces and travel to different locations all over Gotham to thwart the evil plans of his rogues.
Batman will be joined by Robin, Nightwing, Batgirl, Bruce Wayne, Commissioner Gordon and Alfred in his battle against The Joker, Harley Quinn, The Penguin, Catwoman, The Riddler, Two-Face, Mr. Freeze, Poison Ivy, Killer Croc, Scarecrow, Bane, Killer Moth, Mad Hatter, Man Bat and a special SURPRISE villain.
In addition to the standard expected punching, jumping and grappling, Batman will be able to switch suits. The alternate suits will give him new abilities, such as bomb dropping.
Also, since a Batman game would be incomplete without them, there will be 5 driving stages. This stages will put you behind the wheel of various vehicles, including, of course, the Batmobile.
Finally, adding to the replay value of this game, besides the standard “Free Play” mode, is the ability to play one of two distinct storylines: Hero or Villain.
Lego Batman is available for all platforms today.
