NYCC: Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Panel

Report by: Katie McClellan

An enormous crowd gathered for the Marvel Vs Capcom 3 panel. I mean, an excessively large crowd, a dangerously large crowd if there was a fire. Capcom’s very own Seth Killian was there to moderate and introduce the other panelists, which included Capcom employees and Marvel’s T.Q. Jefferson and the game writer Frank Tieri. They played a video of the game play which included matchups of the characters that are already available. Grey Hulk also made a cameo in the clip and then the audio started skipping which led the crowd to start to boo. The game uses “MT Framework” processors which were also used in Resident Evil 5. The art style in the game is considered, “Living Comic Book”. It’s darker and more fluid and occasionally some people assume that it is cell shading. There will be Marvel comic book phrases in the game to give it more of a video game comic book feel. Seth Killian expressed that this game would appease both the fans of Marvel and of Capcom. He said that this game has been 10 years in the making so they are making sure it is the best possible sequel they could make. The story of the game goes like this, Doctor Doom of Fantastic 4 fame and Albert Wesker of Resident Evil fame team up to form an “unholy alliance” and “such a thing comes with a terrible price” and “a great and powerful threat has been awakened.” Spiderman was highlighted and the MVC3 team showed off his costume variants such as Amazing Spiderman, Iron Spiderman, Black suit Spiderman and the new costume from the upcoming Amazing Spiderman #650. New characters were revealed such as Nathan Spencer from Bionic Commando and Sir Arthur from Ghouls N’ Ghosts. Nathans attacks are similar to Scorpion in Mortal Kombat and Sir Arthur will have ALL WEAPONS and POWER UPs from Ghouls N’ Ghosts. Seth Killian showed off “Simple Mode” which means you could actually pull off combo’s with just one hand; it’s like a beginners mode for new players. Marvel Vs Capcom 3 is going to be a game worth purchasing and playing for hours on end.

Here are some pics and video of the new characters.
