The Toys of The Dark Knight Rises: Mezco Mez-Itz: The Tumbler with Batman

As the Dark Knight Rises barrels towards theater, there is a huge amount of tie-in merchandise out there, particularly in the toy segment. Over the next few days, I will be reviewing some of the top toys out there to tie-in to the movie. We’re going to begin with some of the offerings from Collectible and Cult Toy company, Mezco. Mezco is tying into the Dark Knight Rises using their line of 2 inch collectible figures they call Mez-Itz.

The first product we’re going to look at is Mezco’s 6 inch version of the latest version of the iconic Batmobile, the Tumbler.

Mezco has jumped onto the massive Dark Knight Rises merchandise bandwagon, using their celebrated 2 inch articulated figure line, Mez-itz, to recreate the biggest characters from the film. Also being produced by Mezco is a 6 inch version of the awesome Tumbler version of the Batmobile designed to compliment the 2 inch scale figures. It is that product that we are here to review. The review will be split into 2 parts: The Tumbler and Batman.

The Tumbler: There have been several different versions of the Christopher Nolan Era Batmobile, but this is one of the best.  A fully modeled 6 inch model of the Tumbler. It is mostly faithful to the real thing, except that the hubcaps and the jet engine are painted in a somewhat “cartoony” style. The hatch and back flaps are one removeable piece that allow access to the cockpit. The cockpit seats two, though since Mez-itz cannot sit, there are two sets of holes that a Mez-itz’ feet fit into. This system works remarkably well.  My only pet peeve is that the wheels do not move. So, they gave us an awesome Batmobile that will NEVER GO ANYWHERE! That is such a big disappointment for me. Other than that, this is an awesome version of the Tumbler. Well Done Mezco.

Batman: Of course, the car is nothing without the man. Or, in this case, the Batman. This 2 inch version, based on Christian Bale’s version from the Dark Knight Rises, features an exceptional paint job. Occasional splashes of grey create the definition necessary to recreate the intricate Batsuit from the movie. A stern expression is painted on Batman’s face. He wears a cloth cape, and is articulated at the neck, shoulders and legs. Interestingly, the legs actually rotate outward.

IS IT WORTH IT? It honestly depends on what you are looking for. I cannot honestly say that this is, per se, a toy. The wheels on the Tumbler do not turn, so it does not move. However, as a collectible piece it is one of the nicest pieces I have seen and I am not sorry that I purchased it. I have been waiting since February to get my hands on it and do not feel disappointed. If you are looking for a great collectible piece, you can not go wrong here. The vinyl Batman has a remarkable paint job for a 2 inch figure.

FINAL SCORE: 4 out of 5
