Next up is one of our favorites, DC Collectibles. DC Collectibles is, of course, the merchandising arm of DC Comics, responsible for all of the “first party” DC Entertainment merchandise (action figures, statues….etc.) This year was a slightly bittersweet visit, due to the fact that Kevin Kiniry, our longtime media contact, has chosen to move on from DC Collectibles.
Though the sadness was tempered with celebration, as DC Collectibles celebrated their 20th Anniversay this year. Adding to our joy was the fact that one of our other longtime friends, the one and only king of sartorial splendor, Jim Fletcher, was there to lead up through their fantastic lineup of products.
The centerpiece of the showroom was an incredible bust of the Joker, created by master Hollywood makeup artist, Rick Baker. Though spectacular, it was not the only thing that they had on tap.
The DC Icons line will be put on hiatus and will be replaced by the DC Essentials line. These new figures will have increased articulation and be based mostly on the Rebirth looks of the featured characters.
There are also figures based on the extraordinary Doomsday Clock series by Geoff Johns and Gary Frank on tap, taking the form of three two-packs. These figures represent the first figures of characters from Watchmen by DC Collectibles since the Before Watchmen figures from a few years ago. Readers of the fantastic Doomsday Clock event miniseries know that the Rorscach Figure in this series is not, in fact, the same Rorscach from Watchmen, but in fact, a new character. Also included in this series are figures of two new characters, The Mime and Marionette.
In terms of statues, some amazing ones are on the way, including Batman from Dark Knights: Metal by Greg Capullo, and others by Jim Lee and Gerard Way. Also being introduced is a series of PVC statues called DC Core, that will present popular characters in dynamic poses at a lower price point. There are also some really great new entries in their new Artist’s Alley and Black and White assortments. They also have a replica Joker Cane coming.
Also, celebrating the legendary Marv Wolfman run on Teen Titans, DC Collectibles is coming out with a series of statues which, when placed next to each other recreate an iconic cover.
Finally, in their popular Batman: the Animated Series line, there is a Harley Quinn Expression pack to compliment the Batman and Joker packs that have already been released.
