It’s almost here. We are counting down to the premiere of Series 6 of Doctor Who. This launch center is designed to bring together the trailers, interviews and images that have been made available for the launch of the new series.
To start, here is the official BBC Press Release on Series Six
Doctor Who returns to UK screens for a seven-episode run which opens with a spectacular two-parter set in the USA and penned by “Who supremo” Steven Moffat.
In the opening two episodes, co-produced with BBC America, key scenes have been filmed in Utah for a story set in the late Sixties in which the Doctor, Amy and Rory find themselves on a secret summons that takes them on an adventure from the desert in Utah – right to the Oval Office itself.
The new series follows on from the Doctor Who Christmas Special which featured guest stars Katherine Jenkins and Michael Gambon, and has been split into two blocks, with the second block to be shown in autumn 2011. By splitting the series Moffat plans to give viewers one of the most exciting Doctor Who cliff-hangers and plot twists ever, leaving them waiting, on the edge of their seats, until the autumn to find out what happens.
Series Six premieres on Saturday, April 23rd at 6:00pm on BBC One and BBC One HD and at 9:00pm on BBC America.
Series Six again stars Matt Smith as the Eleventh Doctor, Karen Gillan as Amy Pond and Arthur Darvill as Rory Williams. Also returning is Alex Kingston as River Song. The Executive Producer, Head Writer and Showrunner is again Steven Moffat and Piers Wenger and Beth Willis are again Executive Producers.
Episode Titles
The series is broken into two blocks. So far, only the titles for the first bock have been released.
There are seven episodes in the first block. Here are the titles.
6.1 – The Impossible Astronaut (Part 1 of 2)
6.2 – Day of the Moon (Part 2 of 2)
6.3 – Curse of the Black Spot
6.4 – The Doctor’s Wife
6.5 – The Rebel Flesh (Part 1 of 2)
6.6 – The Almost People (Part 2 of 2)
6.7 – A Good Man Goes to War (Mid-Series Finale)
After Episode 7, the series will go on hiatus until the Fall, returning then with the final 6 episodes of series 6.
Other than the filming in America, the biggest “behind the scenes” story is the fact that famed sci-fi, fantasy and comic book writer Neil Gaiman has written an episode for this series. In fact, it is Episode 4, The Doctor’s Wife. It is one of the most anticipated episodes this series.
Of course, there are two big plot points this series. The first involves the official appearance of The Silence, the mysterious force that blew up the TARDIS last series. They are some of the most terrifying monsters ever to be in Doctor Who according to, well, everybody. The other big plot point this year is the full story of River Song. It is promised this year that you will find out who she is, her true relationship to the Doctor and who she landed in prison for killing. This story has been building since “Silence in the Library” and, if I know Steven Moffat, the payoff will be worth it.
It should be noted that due to the secretive nature of the plots and characters, there is currently NO INFORMATION ABOUT THE DOCTOR WHO SERIES SIX ACTION FIGURE LINE. I would like to stress though, that there WILL BE SERIES SIX FIGURES. I am not at liberty to talk about them, but they will be coming.
Keep checking back as the episodes air and in between for news, previews, images and clips. It all starts this Saturday, Geronimo!
