Figures and More is at New York Comic Con 2010 at the Javitts Center in New York City. We have brought an intrepid staff, consisting of yours truly, Rob Hull, our Graphics Editor, Peter Trifiatis, and an oustanding group of staff writers: Yunes Yussef, Rob Monaco, Dave Monaco, Brain Estock, Sally Wink and Katie. Over the next few days, you will see reports and photographs for these individuals which will bring the experience of being at the show right to your computer. But, before we get into all of the booths and panels that we saw, I wanted to create a short primer for those of you thinking of attending this show, or any other like it.
The first thing you need to realize is that Comic Con is HUGE! Once you get past this realization, everything will just fall into place so much easier. The next thing you need to realize is that the show is crowded. How crowded?
The Second thing you have to remember is that the food is going to be extraordinarily overpriced. How overpriced?
That’s right: $16.25 for three Chicken Tenders, a side of fries and a soda. They’ve got you right where they want you, so if you get hungry, prepare to pay.
The Third thing to remember is that you CANNOT DO EVERYTHING! It’s just impossible. The only way to avoid disappointment is to pick and choose. Look at the panel schedule ahead of time and plan to be in line for the ones that you want to go to at least 30mins beforehand. Also, visit the major booths as soon as you arrive and pick up their signing schedules. We took 7 people to Comic Con and we still couldn’t catch all of it.
But, for all of the warnings above, I still recommend going. It isn’t very often that the disparate worlds of pop culture are brought together in one place as well as it is done here. So, I hope you got to the show. For those who didn’t, sit back and let us take you there.
