Toy Fair 2012 – Mezco

So, this year, Mezco is riding high thanks to the addition of some huge licenses, such as DC Universe and Thundercats. This year, they are adding even more new licenses, as well as continuing their signature lines, such as Living Dead Dolls. Here’s a look at what’s in store.

Creepy Cuddlers: Mezco’s line of horror themed plush will continue. Series two, due in August, will include a zombie monkey wearing persian robes and a fez, a zombie bunny and a zombie human that look remarkably like a certain press contact. Also on tap are plush versions of Chucky and Saw, also in August, followed by Freddy and Jason later in 2012.

DC Entertainment: Mezco’s DC Universe Mez-it’s line continues to build momentum, adding licensed products based on The Dark Knight and, announcing this year a license for this Summer’s The Dark Knight Rises. In addition, another series of mini Mez-itz based on the chat=raters of the DC Universe is on the way. Here’s the lowdown on what’s coming from the key segment of Mezco’s product line.

DC Universe: The DC Universe line will see new additions to the Mez-itz and mini Mez-itz lines this Summer. Due in June 2012, Mez-itz Series two consists of Superman and Darkseid. Also due in June, Series three consists of Batman and the Joker. Mini Mez-itz Series two is also due this Summer. Series two consists of three two packs: Batman Beyond and Cyborg, Flash and Captain Cold and Dr. Fate and the Demon Etrigan. Due in April, the Mini Mez-itz keychain set consists of: Batman, The Joker, Green Lantern and Sinestro. Also coming this Summer is the second DC Universe mini Mez-itz figure/vehicle set: The Batwing with Batman.

The Dark Knight: Mezco will be releasing a series of Mez-itz and mini Mez-itz based on The Dark Knight. Slated for release this April are Mez-its of  Batman and The Joker. Mini Mez-itz will also be released in April, in the form of a 4 figure box set, which will include: Batman, The Joker, Two-Face and Scarecrow. In addition, a figures and vehicle box set consisting of Batman and the Joker with the Batpod will be relased in April.

The Dark Knight Rises: Mezco was thrilled to announce at Toy Fair that Warner Bros. has extended to them a license to make product to support the upcoming film The Dark Knight Rises. The only product that was shown was the mini Mez-itz Batman and Tumbler. We have been told that there will be both mini and regular-size Mez-itz of Batman, Bane and Catwoman, as well as vehicle and figure sets of Bane and his Tumbler and Catwoman and the Batpod. As soon as Mezco releases final approved images of the product, we will have them for you.

Other Licensed Product: Although the DC Universe license is huge, Mezco has other licenses which will add product this year, and also has new licenses to announce. Here’s the lowdown on Mezco’s other licensed product this year.

Domo: One of the new licenses picked this year by Mezco is for Japanese icon Domo. Domo is a odd little creature who hatched from an egg and lives in an underground cave. The biggest thing about Domo that makes him perfect for toys is that he is a blank canvas. You can literally put just about any outfit on him. Mezco will producing collectible figures, wind-ups and a bobblehead. Series one of the collecible figures will consist of British Domo (with bowler hat, umbrella and “Union Jack” flag), Punk Rocker Domo (with guitar, tank top, wristband and mohawk) and Lucha Libre Domo (with mask, cape and title belt). The bobblehead will be just a plain brown Domo and the windups will come in different colors.

Little Big Planet: Mezco’s series of figures based on the immensely popular Playstation game rolls on. This October, Series four, consisting of: Basic Sackboy. “Sunflower Wallpaper” Sackboy and White and Pink Striped Sackboy, will be released. Also due in October are a series of Little Big Planet mini-figures, include Cowboy and Devil Sackboys.

South Park: Mezco still has the license for South Park, which is about to enter it’s 16th season. This year, it’s back to basics, as the South Park products announced feature, with one exception, only the four main characters. There will be a box set of 4 regular sized figures of Stan, Kyle, Cartman and Kenny. There will also be a mini-figure box set, in addition to oversized talking figures of Cartmen and Mr. Hankey.

Mars Attacks: One of the new licensed announced by Mezco is this one, based on the 1996 film, starring Jack Nicholson and directed by Tim Burton. So far, Mezco has only announced two products: both a plush and a collectible figure of a Martian Soldier.

Earthworm Jim: Another obscure, cult favorite property, Earthworm Jim was a videogame first released in 1994. The first products announced are a plush doll and a collectible action figure. The action figure will come with accessories and the ability to remove the worm from the space suit.

Spongebob Squarepants: Who lives in a pineapple under the sea? The answer, of course, is Spongebob Squarepants. And now, Nickelodeon’s most absorbent star is coming to life thanks to Mezco. Two series of collectible figures have been announced. Series one, due in June, consists of Mr. Krabs, Spongebob and Patrick. Series two, due in November, consists of Spongebob, Squidward and Sandy. All figures will have accessories and bases. Also in the works are mini-figures and a bobblehead.

Thundercats: Last year, Mezco introduced their Thundercats line with a jaw-dropping 14″ Lion-O figure. This year, they are following up with two new figures. Mumm-Ra is due in May. Panthro is due in August. Mumm-Ra has a real cloth cape and bandages. Panthro will come with his nunchuks.

Universal Monsters: The final Mezco license this year is for Universal’s Classic Monsters. Figures have been announced for Frankenstein, the Mummy and the Creature from the Black Lagoon. Also announced was a MEGA DELUXE figure of Frankenstein.

Living Dead Dolls: Finally, from Mezco, we visit the world of their proprietary Living Dead Dolls. These macabre, but fun porcelain dolls come with whimsical costumes, usually fitting a central theme. Having just celebrated their 13th Anniversary, Living Dead Dolls shows no signs of stopping, as this year they announce Series 23, the “tea party” set, which consists of Teddy, Quack, Agatha, Jennocide and Betsy. Each doll will come with a tea cup, except for Betsy, who will come with the tea pot. Each doll will also come with a table, which when attached to one of the doll box coffin lids, will create the table. This terrifying tea party will be available in July.

Also, their Scary Tales Series will continue. Volume 3 will consist of Hansel and Gretel and releases in March. Volume 4 will consist of Snow White and the Evil Queen and releases in May.

Also, just in time for the Holidays, in November, there will be a special Toy Soldier doll.

There will also be several licensed Living Dead Dolls. starting with Chucky in October, and continuing with Dracula and Frankenstein in 2013.

Finally, there will be a second series of 2″ figurines. The lineup will consist of: Grace of the Grave, Schitzo, Damien, Frozen Charlotte and Walpurgis.
