IDW Panel @ New York Comic Con
Report by: Katie McClellan
The IDW panel at NYCC was moderated by CCO Chris Ryall and included Gabriel Rodriquez, Peter David, J.K. Woodward, Andy Schmidt, Tony Lee, Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning. It took a little time for the panel to start due to audio difficulties. It was worth the wait. Art was shown for John Byrne’s “Next Men” which was interesting to see. Joe Hill’s “The Cape” will be available in December of this year. Locke & Key is also coming out in December with each issue being a stand alone story with new keys in each issue. Gabriel Rodriquez explained that the last pieces will finalize the story of “Keys to the Kingdom.” There are only 16 issues left and Rodriquez alluded to a big buildup and a bigger ending. Locke & Key is also currently being developed into a television series by FOX. It will be a 2 hour debut and Josh Freedman of “Sarah Connors Chronicles” will be working on it. It was announced that a Doctor Who comic would be coming in 2011 and the first cover was shown with cover art by Tommy Lee Edwards, who will be doing all of the covers for the series. This series follows the Eleventh doctor. Mark Buckingham contacted IDW and has expressed interest in working on the new Doctor Who series. At Comic Con we learned exclusively that Mark Buckingham WILL be working on the series. In January we can look forward to Fallen Angel: Return of the Son by Peter David & J.K. Woodward. In February, there will be two Transformers comics and two Star Trek comics. In March, G.I Joe and Ghostbusters get their own comics. Keep your eyes peeled for a zombie Stay Puft Marshmallow man. Infestation was announced as well, it is by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning with cover artwork done by David Messina. Infestation is “Zombies vs Robots” in the universes of Ghostbusters, Transformers, Star Trek and G.I. Joe. Sadly, no one will be eating Spock’s brain. The big announcement for the panel was Godzilla. It will have the art and writing of “The Goons” very own Eric Powell. The Godzilla comic will be called Godzilla: Monster World and it will debut in March 2011. It will contain a plethora of giant city crushing, monster battling monsters. As the panel ended, a soundbite of the Godzilla series was played much to the joy of the audience.
