TOY FAIR 2010: DC DIRECT

Next up from Toy Fair are the latest offerings from DC Direct, the company responsible for the absolutely amazing  Blackest Night toy line that is currently flying off shelves. Here’s what they have cooked up this year. DC Direct had their showroom directly on the show floor this year, which made it easy to tour. The items will be listed in the order we saw them.

Detective Comics Box Set: This is a set of five action figures whose looks are taken from the “Classic” era of Detective Comics. The figures are: Robin, The Riddler, Batman, Batgirl and Bat-Mite. This is the first time a Bat-Mite figure has been made. The set will also include a 64 page Comic Book. The set will be available in June 2010.

DC Origins: This series of 2 packs celebrates the 75 year history of the iconic characters of the DC Universe. Each 2 pack contains figures of the “Classic” and “Modern” versions of the character. Series 1, due in May 2010, consists of Batman, The Joker, Nightwing and Catwoman. Series 2, due in September 2010, consists of Superman, Wonder Woman, The Flash and Green Lantern.

DC Chronicles: Continuing their celebration of DC’s 75th  Anniversary, DC Direct is releasing a series of statues featuring the original depictions of DC’s most recognizable heroes. The statues will be released on a staggered schedule. Here is the line-up, with their release dates. Batman (April 2010), Superman (May 2010), Aquaman (July 2010), Wonder Woman (September 2010), Death (from Sandman) (October 2010), Morpheus (from Sandman) (October 2010), Green Lantern (November 2010) and The Flash (November 2010).

Movie and TV Statues and Busts: DC Direct is releasing three statues and three busts that represent some of the most iconic film and television portrayals of their most recognizable heroes. The statues scheduled for release are: Linda Carter as Wonder Woman (April 2010), Christopher Reeves as Superman (July 2010) and Michael Keaton as Batman (October 2010). The bust release schedule is as follows:  Superman (August 2010), Wonder Woman (August 2010) and Batman (September 2010).

Covergirls of the DC Universe: DC Direct is continuing this popular series of statues based on the art of Adam Hughes. This year will see the release of: Harley Quinn (June 2010) and Poison Ivy (September 2010). They will join the Wonder Woman, Catwoman, Power Girl, Black Canary and Zatanna statues already available.

DC Dynamics: This is a series of statues, featuring some of DC’s biggest heroes in “dynamic poses”, such as Superman flying or Aquaman rising up out of the water. The statues in the series are: Wonder Woman (Available NOW), Aquaman (March 2010), Batman (May 2010), Superman (July 2010), Green Lantern (September 2010) and Supergirl (November 2010).

Blackest Night and Green Lantern: The hit toyline based on the immensely popular storyline currently playing out in the comics continues. Two previous series have come out and sold out. DC Direct had the next FOUR series on display at Toy Fair. Here’s what’s to come: Series 3, hitting in March, will consist of: Larfleeze, The Orange Lantern (with Glomulus), Star Sapphire, Black Lantern Aquaman and Green Lantern Arisia. Series 4, due in April, will consist of: Green Lantern Kyle Rayner, Black Hand, Black Lantern Firestorm and Black Lantern Wonder Woman. Series 5, due in August, will consist of: Black Lantern Nekron, Black Lantern Batman, Black Lantern Hawkman and Black Lantern Deadman. And, finally, revealed at Toy Fair for the first time, Series 6, due in November, consists of: Blue Lantern Flash, Star Sapphire Wonder Woman, Black Lantern Hawkgirl and, FINALLY, Green Lantern Hal Jordan! Also, DC Direct has announced a re-release of Series 1, as well as a special Sinestro Corps Mongol figure, which will be available in August. In addition to the toys, Dc Direct is producing a set of light-up rings for each of the Lantern Corps. The set will be available in July.

UPDATE: DC DIRECT HAS ANNOUNCED THAT THE NEW WHITE LANTERN RING THAT DEBUTED AT THE END OF BLACKEST NIGHT #7 WILL BE ADDED TO THE BOX SET AT NO ADDITIONAL COST.

Also from the world of Green Lantern comes the Green Lantern 1:2 Bust of Hal Jordan, the Honor Guard Ring Prop Replica, the Justice League Trophy Room: Sinestro’s Yellow Lantern Prop Replica and the Green Lantern: Legacies Multi-Part Statue. The statue consists of three separate statues that join together to make a larger statue. Each part of the statue contains a piece of the larger statue’s central figure: the Golden Age Green Lantern: Alan Scott. The pieces will be released according to the following schedule: Part 1: Hal Jordan and the Guardians of the Universe (Alan Scott: Base and Boots) – April 2010, Part 2: Kyle Rayner and Manhunter Robot (Alan Scott: Legs)- May 2010 and Part 3: John Stewart and Guy Gardiner (Alan Scott: Torso, Head & Cape)- June 2010.

Batman: Black and White: The popular series of grey scale statues based on iconic depictions of the Dark Knight continues. The following statues are due for release this year: Batman (Frank Quietly)- May 2010, Catwoman (Steve Rude)- July 2010, Batman (Arkham Asylum Video Game)- September 2010 and Man-Bat (Neal Adams)- November 2010.

Batman vs. Killer Croc: This is an amazing porcelain statue coming in March. The pictures say more than my words ever could.

Superman: New Krypton: Series 1 of this line based on the latest Superman storyline is due to hit in October. The lineup consists of Superman, Mon-El, Superwoman and Brainiac.

Batman: Reborn: Series 1 of this series based on the events of the Battle for the Cowl storyline is due in July 2010. The lineup consists of: Azrael, Batgirl, Batman: Two-Face and Batman: jason Todd.

The Joker 1/4 Scale Museum Quality Statue: This is an absolutely unbelievable recreation of the Clown Prince of Crime. The face is unbelievable. The clothing is cloth It looks all-around amazing. It is due out in November. Here are some pictures of this jaw dropping statue.
