It snowing, it’s freezing and I’m standing in line. It must be that time of year again. Toy fair 2014 begins in New York City on a frigid Saturday with the Hasbro Collector Briefing.  The Showrooms covered in this report are for: Transformers, Kre-o, Marvel, and Star Wars. GI Joe will be mentioned, but there was no showroom to visit. NOTE: The pictures accompanying the individual segment descriptions are provided by Hasbro. TRANSFORMERS

In 1984, Transformers made their debut. That’s 30 Years ago! In addition, to this being an Anniversary year, Hasbro is also gearing up for the release of a new movie: Transformers: Age of Extinction. This movie will feature the long awaited debut of the Movie-look Dinobots. But the Transformers team has a new mission this year, reinventing the brand so that the level of difficulty in transformation is appropriate to the age group the toy is for. The line is now divided into 3 segments: Pre-School, Boy and Fan. Here’s what the Transformers team has on tap for 2014.

TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION, hitting theaters in the U.S. on June 27^th of this year, marks the fourth big-screen TRANSFORMERS film from director Michael Bay and Paramount Pictures. The new film introduces a new cast of human characters, including Mark Wahlberg as Cade Yeager, and unites a cast of new and returning TRANSFORMERS robot characters, including classic characters OPTIMUS PRIME and BUMBLEBEE and eagerly awaited new additions like GRIMLOCK and the DINOBOTS!

JOE brand at the American International Toy Fair in New York City. JOE brand in 2014. JOE: A REAL AMERICAN HERO will release its landmark 200th issue in March 2014, continuing the story of the original 1980s G.I. JOE comic by original writer Larry Hama. IDW will also launch TRANSFORMERS/G.I. JOE, a series uniting Hasbro’s iconic brands, by acclaimed creators Tom Scioli and John Barber this summer. Additionally, as part of its publishing program, Hasbro is opening the fantasy to fan participation. Amazon Publishing recently announced that Kindle Worlds has reached a licensing agreement with Hasbro to open up a new Kindle World based on the G.I. JOE brand. With the launch of the G.I. JOE Kindle World, writers will be able to publish their own original fiction starring iconic G.I. JOE characters like DUKE, SNAKE EYES, and COBRA COMMANDER and sell their work on Amazon.com. The G.I.
