NOTE: PRODUCT FOR THIS ARTICLE WAS PROVIDED BY BANDAI/BLUEFIN
It’s that time of year again, and I’m here to help with your gift giving needs. This is my Gift Guide for Geeks, an assortment of products that I have come across that I think are perfect for geeks of all ages.
We’re starting with one of Bandai’s “Snap Together” 1/12 scale model kits. This is the Luke Skywalker as Stormtrooper kit. The pieces to assemble this kit all come pre-painted on a series of plastic sprues. To assemble the model, you simply punch out the pieces and snap them together according to the directions. Like LEGO directions, you will be asked to build each arm and leg first and then attach them to the body.
The model comes with several extra hands and weapons. The Luke Skywalker head features a decent likeness of Mark Hamill, and is interchangeable with the Stormtrooper head.
A couple of things to note with this kit
- some of the pieces are VERY small, so use a nice, large, well lit workspace when building it.
- The stickers to decorate the model are VERY tiny. Take care when putting them on.
- If you want to edges of your pieces to be as smooth as possible, purchase a pair of plastic snips from a hobby store
Here is a gallery of photos of the model as it was assembled.
My thanks to Erik Jansen from Bluefin for his assistance
