Back in Business (At Last)

WOW! Let’s see if I still remember how to do this. Allow me to reintroduce myself. My name is Rob Hull and this little site you are reading this post on has been my labor of love for the past 13 years. I have myself been in the Toy Media for the last 20 years, and I am still loving it just as much now as I ever have. This site went dark, as so many things did during the pandemic, but now that the tide seems to be turning we can “put the lights back on.”

I was uncertain as to what the first post back was going to be, but I got an email from the Pop Insider, which by the way is a great website. You should totally go to www.popinsider.com and check them out. Anyway, the email contained an image for the cover of their latest edition of their digital magazine that perfectly encapsulated the way I was feeling about bringing the site back. Here is that image:

The image is called “Heroes Rising” and features action figures from different genres and properties rising, like so many of us did, from the ruins of 2020. It is a stunning and inspiring image, taken by action figure photographer Mitchel Wu.

You can read an interview with Mitchel Wu about the creation of this extraordinary image here.

The Way Forward

So, now that the site is back, what’s next?

Short answer: Content, and lots of it. I have accumulated tons of review product over the course of the lockdown, and now I can start showing it off to all of you. I have decided that the best way to do this is by having Theme Weeks on the site, where each day we explore a different series or segment of a particular line. These will start this week with the AEW Unrivaled line from Jazwares. Future weeks will feature the 4 inch Batman line from Spin Master, The DC Multiverse line from McFarlane Toys, the Masters of the Universe Origins line from Mattel and the WWE Elite line from Mattel and the Alter Nation line from Panda Mony Toys.

From here on out, all action figure reviews will be video reviews. The videos will appear on YouTube, and will be embedded in posts on here, accompanied by a short write up and photos. I hope you all like the videos. It is a new avenue for me that I am trying out. I am excited and nervous about it at the same time. Besides the Theme Week stuff, I will also be doing periodic single item reviews. I will also be posting the latest news from companies as it is released in the News Feed portion of the site. All articles posted to the site will also be linked to from our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages.

Also, on YouTube, I will now be posting periodic “Let’s Build” videos. I won’t say all of items features, but I will give you a sneak peak at 2 of them.

The comics section of the site will also return, once I have caught up on reading all of the comics I have stockpiled. It will feature new weekly reviews, as well as previews and comics related news.

Also coming back is the Video Games section, which will feature video game news, reviews and previews. E3 is on the horizon and I can’t wait to see all of the new games.

Although the pandemic shut them down last year, it looks like trade shows and conventions are poised for a comeback. I am currently planning coverage of Sweet Suite, which will still be virtual, but I hope to be “on the ground” for New York Comic Con and Holiday of Play, and I can’t wait to bring you coverage of Toy Fair 2022.

Finally, as some of you may know, I also have a podcast called “Geeking Out About.” It is also returning, though I’m not entirely sure if the name will change. I will post on here when the name is finalized.

I intend going forward to write more like I speak, so that the print and the video feel like they came from the same person. I want to thank everyone who has stuck with me through this unprecedented period of time. I hope the worst is over and I am ready to get back in the saddle. I hope you will come with me on this latest journey. I started this site with the tagline “the coolest stuff…all in one place.” That’s what I hope to bring you going forward.

Thanks for reading, I hope you enjoy reading and watching all of the content as much as I know I’m gonna enjoy making it.
