Review: Underground Toys: Doctor Who 2010: The Eleventh Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver

The buzzword this year for Doctor Who is NEW! New Doctor, New TARDIS, New Outfit, New Companion and New Sonic Screwdriver. The Eleventh Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver is created by the TARDIS after the Tenth Doctor’s Sonic is destroyed in The Eleventh Hour. The new Sonic, born from the TARDIS console, is much different than it’s predecessor. Now, it has been reproduced by Character Options as part of the 2010 Doctor Who line, and has been brought to the US by Underground Toys.

The first thing you will notice about the new Sonic Screwdriver is it’s size. IT IS HUGE!!! It dwarfs the Tenth Doctor’s Sonic in both size and weight. It is a fairly substantial piece of equipment. The light at it’s tip is green, not blue and the color scheme of the device itself has been altered from grey and black to cream, gold, silver and black. The new Sonic also has new alternate “open” mode. In this mode, the top of the Sonic, sring forward and four”arms” extend.

As with the previous version, the toy Sonic has authentic lights and sounds, which are activated in two different ways. When the Sonic is in “closed” mode, the lights and sounds are activated by pressing the button in the middle of the Sonic. When in the alternate “open” mode, the lights and sounds are activated by opening the small cap at the bottom of the Sonic and pressing the red button. The “open” mode is activated by pressing the button just above the sound activation button in the middle.

The product is very sturdy and an extremely accurate representation. I highly recommend ordering one of these today. It runs on three replaceable watch batteries.

The Eleventh Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver gets a 5 out of 5.
