Toy Fair 2015: LEGO

There’s snow on the ground. I’m in NYC and it’s absurdly early in the morning. It can only be Toy Fair Time again. This year, due to the new date format of Sunday through Tuesday, Toy Fair actually began with LEGO. Now, it is no secret, to anyone that has read my Toy fair coverage before, that I am a huge fan of LEGO, so I was very interested to see what they have in store for the rest of the year, since there first major releases of the year, in January, included some really fantastic products. I was very pleased with what I saw from them, and I’m going to take you through LEGO’s offerings theme-by-theme in this report.

The undisputed leader in the construction category, and the #1 Toy Company in the world, LEGO is continuing to strive for excellence in allowing consumers to build their favorite worlds and create new ones born in their imaginations. Here is a look at what LEGO has in store for the rest of 2015.

Since it’s inception a few years ago, the “girl” LEGO sets have continually burned up sales charts and continue to remain hugely popular. In addition to the Animal rescue and new Heartlake City sets introduced in January, LEGO has two new assortments for the rest of 2015, tourism and rock star. All told, 30 new building sets will be released in 2015. Here is a look at the sets still coming.

Tourist

The sets featured in this assortment are all designed around guests visiting Heartlake City. These sets will be available in August.

Sets in this assortment include:

  • 41098 – Emma’s Tourist Kiosk – 98 pcs – $9.99
  • 41099 – Heartland Skate Park – 199 pcs – $19.99
  • 41100 – Heartlake Private Jet – 230 pcs – $29.99
  • 41101 – Heartlake Grand Hotel – 1555 pcs – $129.99

All of these sets are really cool, and it’s nice to see more “non-traditional” activities, such as skateboarding being brought into the mix. The Private Jet set is really neat, with a security gate and luggage scanner. But, the highlight is by far, the Heartlake Grand Hotel. This incredibly impressive set boasts three levels, an outdoor courtyard with a table and chairs, a snack cart and a fountain, a revolving door and an indoor lobby with a piano and performance platform. It also features four individual rooms and the first ever working LEGO elevator. There is even a taxi included with the set.

Then in August, the action shifts to two new assortment. First up is Deep Sea Exploration. There will be 5 sets in this assortment. They are:

I LOVE this assortment. I have always loved the LEGO Space Shuttle models and the one with the huge booster rockets that comes in the Spaceport set is spectacular. The Training Jet is also a stunning model, with folding wings. This whole assortment should do very well.

LEGO Architecture

LEGO’s series of intricate models based on famous landmarks from around the world continues. At Toy Fair, we learned that one of the most famous buildings in the world is at last getting it’s LEGO due this September.

  • 21024 – Louvre – 695 pcs – $59.99

NOTE: In the catalog given to us at Toy Fair, LEGO lists the next Architecture model as 21023 – Flatiron Building – 471 pcs – $39.99, available in June. However, this model was not shown at Toy Fair. I will attempt to get clarification from LEGO.

The Louvre model is amazing, with a stunning recreation of I.M.Pei’s glass pyramid made from clear bricks.
