Toy Fair 2015: LEGO

Scooby-Doo

One of LEGO’s big pre-Toy Fair announcements was the signing of this classic license. These sets are all based on the original classic series, and each “monster” features a removable mask, so that kids can discover “whodunnit?” There are 5 sets planned for release in August. They are:

  • 75900 – Mummy Museum Mystery – 110 pcs – $14.99
  • 75901 – Mystery Plane Adventures – 128 pcs – $19.99
  • 75902 – The Mystery Machine – 301 pcs – $29.99
  • 75903 –  Haunted Lighthouse 437 pcs – $49.99
  • 75904 – Mystery Mansion – 860 pcs – $89.99

These sets made me smile as soon as i saw them. I anticipate a lot of adults buying these just for the nostalgia value alone. All of the sets are stellar, and the Mystery Mansion set looks like it came right out of the cartoon.

Pirates

This was another “surprise” line from LEGO at Toy Fair, built around a popular play theme for young boys. This is a generic pirate line, and is not meant to represent any one specific property from any medium. There are 5 sets planned for release in March. They are:

  •  70409 – Shipwreck Defense –  84 pcs – $12.99
  • 70410 – Soldiers Outpost – 164 pcs – $19.99
  • 70411 – Treasure Island – 181 pcs – $19.99
  • 70412 – Soldiers Fort – 234 pcs – $29.99
  • 70413 – The Brick Bounty – 745 pcs – $99.99

That pirate ship is awesome. This is just a good example of a not too fancy, well executed, good looking basic play line. This should be a big hit.

Bionicle

The end of the road on our tour of LEGO’s 2015 offerings comes with a much celebrated return of an old favorite. Bionicle returned in January amidst much fanfare, and, if early sales are any indication, absence really does make the heart grow fonder. LEGO intends to keep the momentum going with a second round of sets in 2015. The heroes all debuted in January, now in August, it’s time to meet their fearsome foes. Four single models, plus a two model “Battle Pack” are set for release. The sets scheduled for August are:

  • 70791 – Skull Warrior – 102 pcs – $14.99
  • 70792 – Skull Slicer – 71 pcs – $14.99
  • 70793 – Skull Basher – 72 pcs – $14.99
  • 70794 – Skull Scorpio – 107 pcs – $14.99
  • 70795 – Mask Maker vs. Skull Grinder – 171 pcs – $29.99

Bionicle is burning up the sales charts and these look like some truly worthy and dangerous foes for the recently released heroes. There are also plenty of interchangeable pieces between all of the models for a truly unique building experience.

That does it for our trip through the world of LEGO for the rest of 2015. Special Thanks to Ashley Edwards at the LEGO Group. Please check out the rest of our Toy Fair Coverage
